BALCH and FEICHTLBAUER Families

The Feichtlbauer family originated in Obenberg, Perg, Oberösterreich in Austria. Young George Feichtlbauer made his way to London sometime around 1890 and met and married Alice Dentus, a young Welsh lass. After some 20 years and seven children, George took it into his head to marry someone else, without bothering with the formality of a divorce. He had two more children with his second wife. Alice died just a few years after George left her.

The Balches have long lived in Lambeth, but came originally from Dorset in southwest England. This is the same region Stephanie Marie Balch was evacuated to during the Second World War - she always felt at home there and now we know why!

This lovely lady was born in St Thomas’s Hospital in Lambeth, within the sound of Bow Bells, making her a true (and very proud) Cockney. She lived most of her life away from London, but London never left her heart.

Stephanie had a difficult childhood, so much so that World War II was an almost welcome disruption. She spent the first two years of the war in idyllic surroundings in southern England - years that would stay with her all her life.

Stephanie would grow up to become an accomplished, smart, loving and beautiful woman - read some of her stories below.
